Shi Hui,born in 50 s,with the painful memory of her father during the Cultural Revolution in the 1970 s,engaged in the manufacture of craft textiles and research on batik techniques.In 80 s,the arrival of Wanman and the opening of the Institute of Wall hanging gave Shi Hui a new vision,prompting her to become one of the first artists group to go to the international stage.In 90 s,with the help of traditional production techniques,and thinking on spatial awareness,she made craft weaving on plane transforming into sculpture in space form.In 2000,her focusing shifted from the subtle changes in the original network structure and the shape shaping to the study of external space and context.Along with Shi Hui's teaching in the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts,and the 5th studio "Fiber and Space Art",she actively involved in public things.In 2009,together with Feng Boyi,they jointly curated the exhibition "the 5th Space" to promote the development of soft sculpture and contemporary sculpture field.From the plane of the material to the three-dimensional space,from the three-dimensional space to the visual cultural context,the creative experiment of Shi Hui was manifested from many aspects.In Shi Hui's works,it not only contains the traditional Xuan paper pulp and woven material,technology,and humanistic spirit consciousness,but also includes the experience and transformation of different contexts in the contemporary nature.These two kinds of consciousness together construct the expression tension in Shi Hui's works.By placing this tension in a field of cultural communication between China and the West,we can experience the blind spot of communication between different contexts,then form the discovery of the gap,and sort out the new possibility of cultural encounter.At the same time,Shi Hui's creation process is also the language experiment of Chinese contemporary art changing from simple historical image narration to multi-dimension,and the process of dialogue between China and the West,the construction of public culture.This process is accompanied by the continuous deconstruction of language and materials within the subject boundary,and also the process of Chinese contemporary art moving towards multiple discourse.As a case study on ont contemporary artist,the development of their creation and attentions on different periods,are all in line with the historical stage of Chinese contemporary art,which partly reflect the step-by-step thinking of Chinese contemporary art.So,here,I will try to analyze the complex connotation of Shi Hui's works from the three aspects of material,space experience and context transformation,together with with the external development environment of contemporary art.I will explore the deep interactive way for artists to intervene in the society and get rid of currently formal or ideological analysis methods of the artist's creation,but will try to construct the analysis core of the artist's case from the other side.And with the help of the case study of Shi Hui's art,we can get involved in the thinking of the key nodes in the development of contemporary art.
