Research On The Ideal Of The Pioneers

This paper studies the design education thoughts of Sichuan Provincial College of Art during the War of Resistance against Japan.It mainly focuses on taking "China Arts and Crafts Society" in 1938 as the beginning and taking Sichuan Provincial College of Art established in 1942 as the object of study.Starting with a series of construction activities and educational and teaching conditions carried out by Sichuan Provincial College of Art during the Anti-Japanese War,this paper summarizes the design education thoughts reflected herein,and discusses respectively from four aspects including the design education thoughts of "National Defense Relations" in the War of Resistance against Japan;the design education thought of "practical and beautiful" under the direction of labor life;the design education idea of "combination of teaching and learning" under the direction of foreign goods and Chinese goods;and the design education thought of "beautify the life" under the direction of ideal of life.Finally,the paper summarizes the thought and theoretical practice of running school of Provincial College of Art at that time into three points: first,the variety of the form of running a school results in the diversity of the design education thoughts;second,the integrality of curriculum construction has established the characteristic of design education thoughts;third,the innovation of the teacher's thought guarantees the foresight of the design education thoughts.Sichuan Provincial College of Art is the product of the times,which is not a simple individual event,but action process of a group.Provincial College of Art is the predecessor of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and Sichuan Conservatory of Music,which have now become the two most important art colleges in the southwest.The emergence of Provincial College of Art has played an important pioneering role in the development of design education in Southwest China.This school is not only a key node in the history of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and Sichuan Conservatory of Music.It is also an important starting point for Chinese design education to open up separate subject education and practical teaching.During the War of Resistance against Japan,a group of artists and educators gathered in the southwest rear area during the internal migration of the country,who carried out a bold attempt of Chinese design education in the rear area,and tried to piece together the historical features of the Provincial College of Art during the War of Resistance against Japan as far as possible,and explored the formation of the ideological system of design education in the period of the War of Resistance against Japan,which is helpful for the researchers to dig into the ideological changes and the background of learning source of design education subjects in China,from which we will think about how can the characteristics of contemporary Chinese design education find the prototype in this period of combing.At that time,these artists and educators developed the initial education thoughts in their minds into the successful experience of Chinese design education model,who were worthy to be the pioneers in the history of Chinese design education.
