The Translation Of Words And Discourse Information In The Political Text

This translation report is based on the sixth chapter of US-China Strategic Competition:Towards a New Power Equilibrium,which discusses the US-China strategic competition would whether trigger conflicts or manage the transition to an equilibrium.Analyzed from literary style,the source text is a political text featuring both the informative text and expressive text,therefore the author should not only convey the accurate information of the source text,but also express the author’s writing style,emotions and opinions to the fullest extent.However,owing to the differences in cultural backgrounds and languages between China and the West,the author finds that in the translation of words and discourse information,the adopting of literal translation alone can easily cause the information loss in the target text,making the target text inconsistent with the content and writing style of the source text.Therefore,how to adopt some effective methods to translate the implicit or defaulted information in the source text becomes the main problem for the author to study.In order to make the target text obtain the same expression effects as the source text,the author uses various compensation methods,such as annotation within text,footnotes,specification,extension,interpretation and amplification.Finally,the author finds that translation compensation is an effective way to solve such problems,hoping the compensation methods summarized in this report can provide certain references to the relevant translation practice.
