At the present stage of our country,English is one of the compulsory courses for students,and reading is one of the four cores of English and it plays an important role in English learning.In recent years,the demand for English reading and the examination of students' ability of English reading have increased gradually.However,in daily English reading teaching,most English teachers still in a traditional way,they just translate the article,teach the language points of the article,and the classes are boring,which let students lose interest in English reading and affect the reading effect.Genre teaching method is a teaching method based on genre and genre analysis.Most articles of English reading comprehension for senior high school have obvious characteristics of genres,this study take FLTARP English of senior high as an example,use the genre-based teaching approach to English reading teaching,and explore the feasibility and effectiveness of it.This study mainly adopts the method of literature,the questionnaire investigation,experimentation,the comparison method and the statistical analysis method,SPSS software was used to analyze the questionnaire.This study selected two classes of Grade One in a senior high school of Harbin as experimental objects and lasted for four months.It mainly includes: from the perspective of genre classification,this study classifies FLTARP English textbooks and selects three representative genres,each of which chooses an article as a case study;the experiment class used the genre teaching method,and the experimental class used the traditional teaching method;used SPSS software to process and analyze the reading test scores of the two classes,and then came to a conclusion.This paper consists of seven chapters.The first chapter briefly introduces the research background,purpose,content and significance of the genre-based teaching approach.The second chapter analyzes the current situation and development trend of the genre-based teaching approach at home and abroad,and concludes that genre teaching method is the inevitable trend of contemporary English teaching.The third chapter mainly introduces the theoretical basis of this paper,analyzes the concept and the classification of genre,the genre-based teaching approach,the development of reading and three main models of reading teaching.The fourth chapter applies the genre-based teaching approach to English reading teaching in senior high school.According to the classification of the article,chose three representative genres,and gave the teaching cases.In fifth and the sixth chapters are the experimental research and the solutions to the problems which are found after the experimental research.In the last chapter,the author concludes that genre-based teaching approach has a positive effect on English reading teaching in senior high school,and points out the limitations of the experimental study,and puts forward the prospect for the future research.The innovation of this study is to apply the genre-based teaching approach to English reading teaching in senior high school.It can improve students' awareness of genre,stimulate students' interest in reading,and improve students' reading ability and reading speed.Indeed,due to the short time of study and the limitation of the level,this study inevitably needs to be improved.In the future teaching practice,educators should do more research in order to make the genre-based teaching approach is combined with English reading teaching.
