| Objective: This study aims at investigating the relationship between core belief challenge and post-traumatic growth, and the mediation effect of control beliefs(primary control and secondary control),the moderation effect of traumatic experience(the degree of pain).Method: 535 college students who had traumatic experiences from8 to 18 years old were selected with the Life Incidence of Traumatic Event-Student Form, and were assessed with Core Beliefs Inventory,Primary and Secondary Control Scale and Post-traumatic Growth Inventory.Result: Correlation analysis showed the relationship among core belief challenge, primary control, secondary control and post-traumatic growth was significant.Regression analysis showed the direct effect of core belief challenge on post-traumatic growth was significant(β=0.649,p<0.001).Structural equation model showed primary control and secondary control played a chain mediation effect between core belief challenge and post-traumatic growth. The degree of pain can moderated the relationship between core belief challenge and primary control. Then simple slope analysis found that for individuals with higher degree of pain, core belief challenge had a higher positive predictive effect on primary control(simple slope=0.571,p<0.001),while for individuals with lower degree of pain, core belief challenge had a lower positive predictive effect on primary control(simple slope=0.428,p<0.001).Conclusion: The core belief challenge can positively predict post-traumatic growth to a certain extent, and can positively predict post-traumatic growth through primary control and secondary control. The mediation effect of primary control and secondary control increased with the increase of the degree of pain. |
