PowerPoint slides are popular among business people for their strong visual impact and they are widely used in different business scenarios.They can not only be used for internal communication,commercial bidding,but also as project deliverables,and plays an important role in business cooperation.Nowadays,as international business communication increases,high-quality translation of PowerPoint slides is becoming increasingly important for enterprises to facilitate effective communication.During an internship in a public relations company,the author translated a large number of commercial presentations,and found that the unique form and content of commercial presentations brought some challenges to the translator.This article lists three major challenges that the author often encountered in the translation process:limited space and strict layout,keeping coherence and logic between and within slides,dealing with unfamiliar terms and abbreviations.The author uses real examples to show these challenges,then analyze them and put forward translation strategies to deal with them.The strategies raised by the author are:make the language concise by deleting repetitive information and using abbreviations and incomplete sentences;use contextual information to accurately grasp the logic between and within slides,and strengthen the coherence by adding words;improve the ability of research,and use zero translation in some occasions. |
