As an indicator of emotional intelligence, trait meta-mood intelligence level has an essential impact on mood regulation which reflects one's ability to attend to,comprehend and adjust his or her mood. Many internal and external factors, including noise, could lead to mood fluctuation.Relevant cross-disciplinary research has not yet covered the empirical study of the effect of noise on overall interpretation performance from the perspective of interpreters' emotional processing.Based on trait meta-mood theory, this thesis explores the correlation between interpretation quality and professional interpreters' trait meta-mood intelligence level. The research includes a self-reporting TMMS test,a simultaneous interpretation exam and a post-interview.Two hypotheses were made: 1.+5db continuous low-intensity noise would harm interpretation quality;2.Statistically,linear correlations should exist between professional interpreters' trait meta-mood level and their performance before, during, and after noise respectively.Mood repair dimension should also positively correlate with their performance during and after noise. The results falsify the hypothesis 1 as most interpreters perform better under the noise intervention. Also, higher trait meta-mood intelligence corresponds with stronger positive impact.Besides, the experiments verify the hypothesis 2 and propose three more findings: 1.Interpreters with high trait-mood intelligence have a steadier performance for the entire source speech;2.Interpreters' ability to attend to mood is generally conducive to interpretation performance. However,an adverse effect is found when subjects allocate excessive attention to mood;3.Noise-evoking incentive stops as noise ceases, resulting in a corresponding quality drop. This research serves as a reference for selection and overall capacity assessment of interpreters. As the trait-mood intelligence can be cultivated and elevated through training,it can be introduced as a new method to resist noise interference and expand mental processing capacity for interpretation.
