Translation Practice Report Of Waste To Wealth (Excerpt) In Light Of Nord's Text Analysis Model

With the rapid development of science and technology in the world,information technology exchanges are widely carried out at home and abroad.The translation of scientific and technological texts has been paid more and more attention by the translation community.The text of this practical report is selected from the environmental science works Waste to Wealth.This translation selects the introduction and the content of Chapter 16 Wastewater Algae to Value-Added Products.The main content is to describe the frontier technology of transforming wastewater into biological products through algae in wastewater from the perspective of organic waste.It aims to arouse the interest of professionals in our country and to actively seek sustainable waste treatment method to help improve the environment problem of our country.The translation is conducted under the guidance of Nord's a model for translation-oriented text analysis,and the text is analyzed before translation,and combining with text analysis,the translation methods of scientific and technological texts are studied in terms of vocabulary,syntax and discourse.1)In terms of vocabulary,the author synthetically considers the “audience” and “lexis” of the intra-textual factors,and adopts the methods of free translation,transplant translation,copying and conversion,etc.It makes the translation of professional terms and common words accurate,fluent and readability.2)In the aspect of syntax,according to the analysis of “sentence structure” of the intra-textual factors,the author applies the method of syntactic dismantling and recombination in the translation of long sentences,and conversion of passive sentences into the active voice when translating passive sentences;3)At the textual level,the author takes into account the “text function” of the extra-textual factors,and adopts the ways of adding connectives and repeating words to achieve semantic coherence and communicative purposes.The following conclusions are drawn: text analysis of the source language is very important which can help the translator to choose the corresponding translation strategy.At the same time,the author hope to provide some reference for the future translation of environmental science and technology text.
