A Practice Report On The Chinese To English Translation Of Visible History Of Science And Technology In China

With the closer exchanges between China and other countries in the world and the rapid advancement of science and technology,the translation of scientific and technological texts has drawn an increasing attention since it is an important tool for promoting scientific and technological exchanges among various countries.Therefore,the people's demand for this kind of translation is also increasing day by day.This paper mainly takes the author's translation practice as an example and summarizes the translation process of the book Visible History of Science and Technology in China.At the same time,the characteristics of English translation of scientific and technological texts are also discussed.The whole text consists of six parts.The first part is the introduction,which describes the background and significance of this thesis.Meanwhile,it also introduces the research program and the related steps as well as the corresponding translation theories.Then it begins with a brief introduction to the translation project so that readers can roughly understand the content.Next,it mainly introduces the author's preparation before starting the program,which covers the purposes of the translation program,the linguistic orientation of target texts,the possible difficulties in the translation process.This part lays a solid foundation for the further research.The middle part summarizes some translation techniques commonly used in the translation of scientific and technological texts with examples,including the methods of omission and conversion.Next,it mainly summarizes the problems and shortcomings of the translation.The last part of this article describes the translating process and summarizes the features of scientific texts and the corresponding translation strategies,which are the beneficial references for the future practice.
