On E-C Translation Of Scientific And Technological Text

The development of economic globalization has promoted the technological exchanges between countries.The translation of scientific and technological texts plays a vital role in communication,and the demand for it is also increasing quickly.Although its volume continues to grow,its quality is uneven,which is caused by translators’ lack of necessary professional knowledge.Therefore,it is particularly important to make in-depth studies of the process for translating scientific and technological texts.T his thesis deals with the translation practice of a scientific and technological text,Floor Mounted Gas Feeders Instruction Manual.It first introduces the pre-translating stage,the while-translating stage,and the after-translating stage,which includes collecting feedback and revision according to the feedback.The thesis focuses on several typical characteristics of the source text,the most outstanding purpose of which is to convey information.Its narration of the text is comprehensive,precise and logical with terminologies,present simple tense and passive voice frequently used.According to these characteristics,the author starts to analyze the source text from the lexical features,the syntactical features and the discourse features by a series of translation examples based on the Text Typology theory,and then discusses corresponding translation methods and skills.According to the Text Typology theory,scientific and technological texts are informative texts which are content-focused.It argues that scientific and technological translation should be plain and explicit.The author also utilizes various kinds of translation techniques to transmit referential content in the target text.The author hopes to provide some helpful suggestions and reference for further exploration on translation of scientific and technological texts.
