The original text belongs to an analytical report,“Evaluation of Educational Standards in the United States”,held by Hoover Institute on May 20,2018 at John Center of Hoover Institution,focusing on efficiency and effectiveness of educational standards in the United States.There are five main speakers and some audience attending the discussion.The original text covers some typical features of interpretation,as PPT interpretation,interaction and Q&A session between the moderator,education experts,and audience.Due to various speaking speeds,expressions,tones,and fuzzy logic of the speakers,these issues pose great challenges to the interpreter.In response to these challenges and difficulties,the interpreter has done much preparation,including background information collection,information of speakers,audio search,production related vocabulary,simulated interpretation environment,and further promote application of interpretation theories and techniques.In the process of interpretation,mainly instructed by the Interpretive Theory proposed by Celeskovic and Ledley,the interpreter records consciously and pays attention to logic and the underlying meaning of words and expressions,and the interpreter could handle problems of confusing logic,different tones,and speeds through deverbalization,breaking away the words and grammars level,and interpret under the concrete discourse.Cross-cultural awareness could also guide the interpreter to deal with the linguistic difference,as slang and double negatives.Finally,the interpreter analyzes and summarizes the whole process of interpretation,finding that application of discourse interpretation plays an important role in expressing the original information,by which the unknown slung and inadequate preparation of vocabulary can be handled.The application of coping tactics can cope with emergencies,like optimizing energy model for PPT interpretation,the interpreter mainly understands the contents of PPT,and simplifies spoken language for conveying main message to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of interpretation.Hopefully,this report could provide some suggestions for interpreters to improve their interpreting ability,and further promote the interpreter's interpreting competence.
