As a phase one must go through,adolescence plays a significant role in human‘s development.The dispute and confusion on this topic nowadays are mainly caused by people‘s lack of understanding of it.Adolescence: A Very Short Introduction,as one of the book series of Very Short Introductions(VSI)published by Oxford University Press,is written by a renowned psychology professor Peter K.Smith with an intention to introduce the knowledge about adolescence in plain language.Therefore,this book is selected by the author as the translation material,so as to make a thorough analysis and summarization of the problems and experience learned during the translation,promote the public‘s understanding of adolescence and provide some insights for the translation of popular science texts.In the report,the author gives a detailed description of the whole translation process,including the background and significance of the task,the collection of parallel texts,the preparation of translation tools and the post-translation proofreading.Then,based on Newmark‘s text typology,the author manages to explain how she manages to deal with the difficulties encountered in the process of translation from the lexical,syntactic and discourse levels.After this,the author gives her insights on the relations between translation theory and practice as well as the competences a professional translator should be equipped with based on the translation task.In the conclusion part,the summarization and limitation of the report,and suggestions for further research are discussed by the author.
