A Report On Popular Science Translation Under The Perspective Of The Text Typology

Nowadays,with the increasing deterioration of environment,it is urgent to improve people's knowledge about how to protect the environment.Easy in style,popular science on environmental protection is of great significance since it can impart scientific knowledge about the environment to readers.The author chooses Section 2 and Section 3 of the second chapter in Concerns about the Sunshine of Tomorrow,a popular science book about environmental problems and environmental protection as the translation text.Rich in content,these two sections are difficult to translate but of great realistic significance.German translation theorist Katharina Reiss and British translator Peter Newmark have both proposed text typology,in which text was divided into expressive,informative and vocative texts.Guided by the theory,the author confirms that the translation text belongs to both informative and vocative texts as the text language is rigorous and objective,and the text style is vivid and lively.Therefore,the choices of translation methods and strategies are based on the types which the text belongs to.On the basis of text typology,the report demonstrates how the difficulties are solved from the following aspects:For words translation,the author adopts three methods: selecting professional translations,correctly understanding the connotation of words,and using the Internet to translation.As for sentences,with the assistance of prepositions and clauses,the author integrates short Chinese sentences into longer ones.At the textual level,the author follows the principle that the expression and the effect of translation should be in accordance with that of the original text.Through the practice,the author acquires more vocabularies through the translation,and hopes it can offer a reference for the study of popular science translation.
