In recent years,the rapid development of science and technology has promoted popular science translation to occupy a place in the whole field of translation.Translating popular science articles helps to spread scientific research results to all parts of the world and promote the progress and development in science and technology.Therefore,from the development situation of popular science translation,the translator has selected the book Divergent Mind,which gone deep into the female world,paid attention to the mental health of women,and discussed five kinds of neural differences with sensitivity as the core,including ADHD,autism,synesthesia,HSP,and sensory processing disorder.The purpose is to help women get rid of the various neurological differences caused by sensitivity.The book belongs to popular science text.The book is concise in language and complex in structure.It involves some professional knowledge in the fields of psychology and neurology,and has a large number of long and complex sentences.In order to accurately express the meaning of the source text and reflect the writing style and language characteristics of the source text,this practice report will be guided by Nida's functional equivalence theory.The translator analyzes some chapters of the book Divergent Mind,selects appropriate translation methods to deal with problems,and discusses the concrete application of this theory in the practice of popular science translation.Considering the feelings of readers,functional equivalence theory emphasizes the most natural and appropriate equivalence to facilitate readers to have a good reading experience.There are many special expressions of technical terms in the book Divergent Mind,and the author is good at combining various clauses to make the structure more compact.At the same time,the scientific popularization of the text is strong,with certain pertinence and persuasion.Therefore,the translator focuses on the translation of long and complex sentences.Directed by functional equivalence theory,the translator carefully analyzes the typical long and complex sentences in the book Divergent Mind and summarizes the corresponding translation methods from the perspective of syntactic equivalence,including embedding,sequence,division,amplication and recasting.This research purpose is to realize the effective conversion between the source language and the target language,to conform to the expression habits and make the translation more smooth and natural.Through the translation of this book,the translator hopes to improve his translation level,and to help other translators to get rid of neural differences,thrive in a world that is not suitable for themselves,and improve their social life.At the same time,the translator solves the difficulties in translation practice and summarizes some experiences and lessons,which lays a certain foundation for translation work in the future.In addition,this translation practice can provide cases for the translation of similar topics,and also provide relevant reference suggestions for readers with the same troubles.
