| Huang Yaomian(1903.1.14-1987.9.3)is a very dynamic literary theorist and esthetician in China.He is also a very influential writer,educator and political activist.The aesthetics of literature and art is rich in connotation and his literary creations are numerous.His novels,prose and poetry have profound practical significance and high artistic value.However,due to the catastrophe of history,Huang Yaomian and his literary aesthetics did not receive the qulifactory attention.Therefore,this thesis,taking Huang Yaomian’s literary aesthetics as research object,strives to present the overall appearance of his ideological theory in a comprehensive way as well as to explore its profound connotation so that Huang’s theory may be evaluated objectively and fairly.Also,in the most ideal situation,this thesis takes the aim that it could provide some new ideas for solving the current literary problems.Three parts constitute this thesis:introduction,subject and conclusion.The main part consists of five chapters and thirteen sections.The introduction part mainly introduces the reason and significance of the topic selection,the domestic research summary,the research difficulties and solutions;Meanwhile,it plays a leading and paving role for the later discussion.Huang Yaomian accomplished a lot of writings in his life,all of which can reflect his deep thoughts on literature,life and society,whether it is his literary works or critical literary creation^.Huang’s own theory of thought also has a distinct realistic meaning as well as a high academic value.But it also should be pointed out that Huang’s theory lives ahead of his own time,which actively affected political environment as well as education of that time,not to mention those countless people who were influenced by him.The first chapter,taking a chronological methodology,introduces the life experience of Huang Yaomian in order to analyze the factors that affect the origin point and developments of his literary aesthetics.To give a general view of Mr.Huang Yaomian’s literary activities,the first chapter is divided into three periods:before the establishment of the Anti-Japanese War,before the founding of New China,and after the founding of New China.Before the Anti-Japanese War,his literary creation was dominated by poetry,the style of which changes along with those changes happened in Huang’s life.From the time of the Anti-Japanese War to the founding of New China,Huang’s literary creation mainly focused on poetry and prose.Huang starts to use philosophical and combative skills to arm his own works,thus he can use literature as a weapon to fight for his own country.After the foundation of the People’s Republic of China,Huang’s literary creations are mainly prose and literary works.During his teaching at Beijing Normal University,Huang shifts his focus to the research and teaching of literary aesthetics theory,and publishes a series of literary aesthetics articles.In order to highlights the clash of Huang’s thoughts on aesthetics of literature and art,the second chapter,taking the first aesthetic discussion after the founding of the People’s Republic of China as the background,discusses the dialogue between Huang Yaomian,Zhu Guangqian and Cai Yi by returning to historical context.While Zhu Guangqian and Cai Yi are typical representatives of"unification of subjective and objective theory" and "objective theory"respectively,Huang Yaomian,taking"life practice"as the starting point and Marxist philosophy theory as the guide,points the limitations of the point of view of Mr.Zhu Guangqian and Mr.Cai Yi out.The third chapter mainly discusses the main theoretical viewpoints in Huang Yaomian’s aesthetic thought.In the questioning of the nature of beauty,Mr.Huang Yaomian expressed his views on beauty and aesthetic sensibility,and gradually realized the limitation of using epistemology to solve aesthetic problems in the debate.Thus he reversed to the research dimension of the value theory and proposed the opinion of"beauty is aesthetic evaluation".At the same time,he incorporated art into his own aesthetic theory and considered the origin of art,the relationship between beauty and art.The fourth chapter expounds the main viewpoints of Huang Yaomian’s literary thought from three aspects:the subject of literature,content and form and literary narratology.Mr.Huang Yaomian emphasized the importance of the main body of literary creation,the subject of literary objects and the subject of literary appreciation.He discussed the relationship between the content and form of literature.He believed that any thing that has a certain content has a certain form.The form is subject to the content and its relative independence.The two must strive for unity.At the same time,through the analysis of classic literary works,he explores the narrative art of characters and stories,and also opens the prelude to the study of narratology in modern Chinese literary theory.The fifth chapter focuses on the significances and limitations of Huang Yaomian’s literary aesthetics.Mr.Huang Yaomian has successfully solved the needs of the time,which means that he has promoted the discipline construction of literary aesthetics,influenced a large number of literary theorists,and has trained a large number of outstanding literary and aesthetic research scholars.His literary aesthetics has a strong sense of reality,which may inspire us to explore new methods in the predicament faced by contemporary literary theory.However,his high desire for revolution and political activities led him to be paranoid about the social function of literature on certain literary issues,which hindered his literary talents and the objectivity of his theoretical system.The conclusion part is mainly to summarize the full text,to sort out the full text,to reaffirm the main points of this article,and to make Huang Yaomian as well s his theory of thoughts enter the focusing field of more scholars.The author believes that with the in-depth study of Huang Yaomian’s literary aesthetics,we can also draw more and more nutrients and energy from it.
