A Discussion Of Hegel's Idea Of Drama Aesthetics

Hegel's idea of drama aesthetics is considered the drama theory as brilliant as Aristotle's Poetics,his discussion is mainly preserved in his book named Aesthetics.This paper is about Hegel's idea of drama aesthetics in Aesthetics,and will contain three parts.In the first part we will discuss how Hegel's aesthetic theory lay a foundation for his drama theory.That is to say,to build status for drama in a series of arts,to present principles that can be applied to all sorts of art,and to form the basis for his drama theory.Introduce what achievement has been made on this topic,by presenting papers and monographs related and commenting on them,also by pointing out what is valuable.In the second part we will take a comprehensive and further look at Hegel's drama theory,and the discussion will be divided into five parts.The first part is about script.First we point out the character of drama in literature,and then we introduce the structure and the language of a drama.The second part is acting,first we discuss the relationship between script writing and acting,and enumerate separately the character of acting in ancient Greece and Hegel's time.The third part is the division of drama,namely tragedy,comedy and the mixture of them.When discussing tragedy,we will expound the purport of a tragedy,what makes a tragedy a tragedy,how to understand reconciliation correctly and the forms of reconciliation,emotion provoked by a tragedy and so on.We will also point out the difference between ancient drama and drama in Hegel's time on motivation,origin of conflicts and forms of reconciliation.According to the character of modern drama that focusing more on people's charact.er,we expound the good and the bad ways of building characters.Besides,we summarize the forms of conflicts down to category.When discussing comedy,we distinguish making other people laugh and making characters laugh themselves,and introduce how a conflict in a comedy be solved,we also summarize the common themes of ancient comedy,and mention the character of modern comedy with a few words.Used specifically as the name of a certain kind of play,the word"drama"refers to the play which has a mixture feature of tragedy and comedy.When discussing this kind of drama,we first define it,then we talk about its expression forms and their effects,finally we give modern drama an introduction and a comment briefly.After the discussion of the three kinds of drama,we summarize the feature of ancient and modern drama and make a comparison,and analyze it as well.The forth part is what a brilliant drama writer is like,only focusing on the writer himself.In this part,we expound inspiration,imagination,and genius,and propose originality as an ideal quality of a drama writer.Then we discuss what is required in order to obtain originality,and clarified some misunderstanding over originality.The fifth part is the requirement for drama writers based on their relationship with the audience.We settle the principle,which is the drama writer should pay attention to audience's reaction,but stick to the standard of truth and art is of the same importance,because that is the only way for a work to gain wide and long-lasting welcome.Then we explain what a drama writer should do to in accordance with the standard above.In the third part we evaluate Hegel's idea of drama aesthetics.First we evaluate its status in the history of drama theory,our conclusion is that Hegel's idea of drama aesthetics assembles the valuable thoughts in the history of drama theory,and is the most important achievement since Aristotle's Poetics.We take a look at the countries and scholars and writers who are inf'luenced by Hegel's theory of conflicts in history.Then we bring up Chernyshevsky and A.C.Bradley as representative examples to illustrate how Hegel's drama theory be criticized and inherited.At the end of this paper we will summarize advantages and disadvantages of Hegel's drama theory,and the conclusions are as follows.Hegel's drama theory has an advantage of standing in the height of philosophy,methodical and complete system,advanced methodology.But Hegel constantly use drama practice as proofs to prove his theory,instead of draw a conclusion from a drama itself,and that results in unfitness between practice and theory,and that is his main defect.However,when we make a comment on Hegel's idea of drama aesthetics,we should make sure our standard is based on drama practice,and understand its uniqueness.
