A Practice Report On The Simulated Translation Of Chinese Subtitle In The Rise Of The Great Powers

As a part of film and television works,subtitles have been increasingly valued by viewers in recent years.And the translation has received increasing attention,too Subtitle translation,which is called "restricted translation" is different from other translation of text types.Under constrains of time and space,translations must convey the content accurately and at the same time follow the rules.From the perspectives of subtitle translation methods and functionalist translation theories,and by using the third episode Toward Modernity of The Rise of the Great Powers as the source,the report analyzes and contrasts the translation of the project and summarizes the practical experience.As an important part of functionalist translation theory,Reiss's Text Typology defines the text type of the selected source and provides theoretical guidance for the translation method.Through the practice,the author adopted three different methods according to the time and space constraints,information dissemination requirements and form retention:condensation,free translation and literal translation.Together with some examples,the methods are explained.Afterwards,comparing with the official translations in words,attributes,parallel sentences and long sentences,translation skills are learned and disadvantages in self-translation are found.At the end of the report,it summarizes the knowledge gained from the practice,the insufficiency in process and experience.In this part,the author sums up the results from translation preparation to the end of practice.The experience gained from this practice can be applied to the translation of other text types.From the beginning to the end,some important aspects that need in process of translation are clearly realized,such as timely recording the problems,transforming ideas into text and so on.
