Research On The Currency System Of Jilin Province In The Qing Guangxu Dynasty

The parallel dual standard system of silver and money in Qing Dynasty was a lame monetary system.When silver and copper coins were circulated as money at the same time,the official only fixed proportion of silver and money was converted,but the market was basically in accordance with its actual value.This system had its defects,which led to the emergence of a series of economic problems in the Qing Dynasty.With the development of time,the aggression of the powers and the backwardness of the Qing government system itself had become extremely serious in the Guangxu period of the late Qing Dynasty,and the influence had penetrated into all aspects of the Qing government.The monetary problem in Northeast China is more prominent.Not only is the monetary mechanism chaotic,but also the economic development is unstable.At the same time,the economic aggression of Japan and Russia is deeper,which makes it difficult to unify the monetary Park Law in this area.Jilin Province is located in the middle of Northeast China,and borders with Korea and Mongolia.It is an important transportation hub.The currency of this area was more disorderly in the late Qing Dynasty.Before the founding of the People's Republic of China,there were as many as 30 kinds of currencies circulating in Jilin.During the Guangxu period,there were 14 kinds of currencies circulating in Jilin.Moreover,foreign currencies and domestic currencies were intertwined,which would inevitably lead to currency and financial confusion and seriously damage the prosperity and development of local economy and commerce.Faced with the severe monetary problems of the Guangxu Dynasty,the local government of Jilin has tried out a series of monetary policies,and successively issued the Pingyin of Jilin Factory,the Baoji Bureau of Jilin Province to make money,the Guangxu Yuanbao and the Tongyuan of Jilin Province,and the Yongheng Official Poster of Jilin Province,in order to save the chaotic gardening law and the unbearable finance in Jilin Province.These monetary reform measures alleviated the currency crisis at that time to some extent,but the monetary problems always came up again and again.They could not eradicate the financial problems in Jidi.Although they were of progressive significance,they always ended in failure.Money is the cornerstone of a country's finance.Only when the cornerstone is firm,can a strong financial wall be built.The purpose of this paper is to sort out and study the specific measures of currency reform in the Guangxu Dynasty in Jilin area,analyze its positive significance and failure reasons,in order to explore the political intention behind the measures of currency reform in this period,and provide historical reference for today's financial policy.
