A Practice Report On E-C Translation Of Financial News

With the advancement of reform and opening up policy, China is gradually integrating into the mainstream of the world economy, thus the importance of financial news becomes increasingly conspicuous. Financial news, as a branch of journalism, has posted its increasingly important place in the news field, since the financial news is closely related to national economy and people’s livelihood. The changes of interest rates, the ups and downs of the stock market and the rise and fall of gold price, are all related to people’s daily lives. As a consequence, financial news at home and abroad becomes a main channel for people to understand the latest economic situation and to analyze the economic trends. At the same time, the translation of financial news is an indispensable way for the Chinese to understand the world economy, or to convey the present situation of China’s economy to the world.This practice report is written on the basis of my translation on the English financial news. It summarizes and discusses mainly from the following four parts:firstly, I make a description of the translation task and translation process; secondly, I discuss the directive function of skopos theory on the translation of financial news, and then analyze the stylistic features of financial news from its lexical features and syntactic features; thirdly, I mainly explore and expound the difficulties in the process of translating financial news, such as the translation of English news headlines, the problem of mechanical application and choices of words when translating words and phrases, and the problem of lengthy sentences and disorder of sentences when translating sentences. After that, I discuss and summarize the according translation solutions; finally, I summarize some financial terms and idioms, and relevant translating experience on translation of financial news, which I have acquired from this translation project, in order to improve my translating competence and to better cope with the translation difficulties in the process of future translating.Through this translation practice, I summarize the translation strategies and translation methods when translating English financial news in order to improve my translation ability, thus laying a foundation for my future translation work. I also hope that these could be helpful to those English learners and financial news translators.
