This translation report is based on the translation of China's Automotive Modernization: The State and Multinational Corporations(Chapter 5).The book analyzes China's automotive modernization from the perspective of Chinese political studies and international political economy,pointing out how Chinese government realizes the goal of automotive modernization via industrial policies and foreign investment,and whether Chinese industrial polices change behaviors of multinational corporations.Chapter 5 mainly demonstrates how Automotive Industrial Policy(1994)influences automotive modernization in China.The report consists of four chapters.Chapter One introduces the translation project,including project background,goal and significance.Chapter Two briefly summarizes basic information about the author and the book.Chapter Three is the main part of this report,presenting the process of this project,including the whole translating process,difficulties in the project,theory application and how to tackle difficulties.Chapter Four concludes key points of the project,experience and issues to be further researched.There are three typical kinds of difficulties in carrying out the project,namely specific words,sentences and background information.Terminologies in automotive sector,words with specific features,noun phrases are frequently used in the source text.Complex sentences are also difficult to translate,and background information needs to be confirmed.Resis' text typology theory suggests that the translation of informative text should focus on the content,aiming at an intact and clear target text.The above rule makes it possible to avoid the dilemma of choosing literal translation or liberal translation.Instead,via flexibly applying specific techniques,a faithful and clear target text is likely to be generated.
