This report is a case study of the E-C translation of a book entitled Secondary School English Education in Asia.It is to give an introduction to the translation task and an analysis of the difficulties and their solutions in translating academic papers on education as well as the translation principles,methods and techniques applied.According to the Text Typology Theory,there are various text types based on the functions of texts.The source text translated in this report introduces the English education at secondary level in such Asian countnes as Israel,Japan,Korea,Singapore,India,Malaysia.Thus,it is a typical academic text on education with the primary function of transmitting information.Reiss highlights the translation standard for informative texts,namely,invariance and completeness in transferring their content while conforming to the linguistic form of the target language.Based on this theory,the report presents the translation techniques such as addition,annotation and recasting through specific analysis of examples from the perspectives of the lexical meaning,the content of the text and the orientation of the target language to meet Reiss's requirements for informative texts.The author of the report reflects upon the translation process and the techniques applied in her translation to accumulate some experience for coping with the translation of the same text type in the future.
