A Report On The Translation Of The Manual Of X Automobile From Chinese To English

The ultimate purpose of the translation is to complete a Chinese-English parallel text for X Automotive Manual.The translation report is composed of four parts: background information,description of the translation process,case study and conclusion after the translation.In the part of the description of the translation process,the author briefly discusses the three stages of translation: pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation in terms of the analysis of target text,construction of a term base,text typology theory,translation process and quality monitoring.And the emphasis of this report is on case study that includes the analysis of proper nouns,compound nouns,abbreviations,common nouns,verbs and sentences.The translation report discusses and studies the translation skills by selecting some typical words and sentences as the subject matter of case study on the basis of text typology theory.The emphasis of text typology theory is placed on the reliability and truthfulness of the information that requires translators to accurately convey authors' intention.The reporter aims to reproduce the information of source language in the translated text by the closest and natural equivalents,providing the target language readers with correct translations in the level of lexeme and syntax,which shows the features of the sci-tech text like automobile manuals.The reporter,basing on text typology theory,uses the methods of translation such as literal translation,free translation and conversion to translate the important and difficult words,linear translation,the change of voices and inversion to translate the important and difficult sentences in X Automotive Manual.The reporter gives a complete description on the process during which the difficulties in translating has been settled and a through analysis on the problems in the process of translation in the hope of providing a case study reference and a set of solutions for those who make frequent contacts with or may be in contact with the translation of automobile manual and those who are interested in the translation of manuals of automobile.Through the case study,the reporter finds translators must make an adequate preparation before translation,which can lay a solid foundation for the subsequent translation;some compound words,abbreviations and the professional expression of common nouns can be translated with the help of the term base before translation,the translations of verbs need to obey the rules of English so as to produce an idiomatic expression,as for the translations of sentences,change of voices and inversion are the two major translation methods;translators should have a high sense of responsibility and own abundant knowledge in some certain fields to be competent for translation work.
