The physiological description of naturalistic literature invigorated traditional literature and fundamentally changed the creative concept and thinking mode of novels.This paper will take Zola's Nana and L 'Assommoir as examples to explore the relation between physiological description and human beings,as well as the environment.And further discuss physiological description's ethical meaning which behind the author's "immoral" criticism,and analyze its literary influence.This thesis has been divided into six parts:First part is the introduction,which briefly analyzes the important role that physiological description played in naturalistic literature,and explains the reasons why this paper takes it as the research object.The second explains the reasons why physiological description has been emphasized historically with methodology and scientific basis as cut-in dot,and analyzes the inevitability of the physical appetites which turn up in the novel as a kind of primitive passion.The third part starts with the study of human beings,and analyzes the reality and fiction of literary description of human.Naturalistic literature expects to know human from its origin,it redresses the description deficiencies of romantic literature and restores human reality.The fourth part with human's"anti-evolution" transformation as a perspective to analyze the connection between the environmental description and the physiological description based on Zola's L 'Assommoir and Nana.As a components of human's internal environment,physiological heredity act together with external environment on mankind and because of its secondary position compared with the latter,individuals get rid of interpretation of fatalism and further gain subjectivity.Then,combining with the creative theory of naturalistic literature,this paper analyzes the relation between battle occurred in the two environments and the reality of man,as well as the environment.The fifth part discusses the moral and "immoral" of physical description.This chapter starts with the creation concept of objective narration,excavates the morality hidden behind the description of immorality such as the description of characters' desire for "food" and "sex".And then emphatically analyzes the social significance of physiological description's symbolic meaning.The sixth part mainly studies the literary influence of physiological description,and takes Japanese literature as an example to make a concrete analysis.Firstly,this chapter discusses the relationship between physiological description and the theme of alienation,as well as the absurdity in novels.And then analyzes physiological description's role when naturalistic novels broken the traditional linear narrative mode it has played in the light of narratology.Finally,it discusses the aberrance of physiological description in Japanese naturalistic literature.Through the content of the full text,we can have a comprehensive understanding of physiological description which had taken a important role in the naturalistic literature,and grasp its influence in the world literature.
