This paper uses the theoretical analysis and empirical study to examine the necessity and feasibility of the concise strategy in interpreting impromptu speech,as well as its impacts on the quality of English-Chinese interpreting,in the hope of providing some reference and inspiration for simultaneous interpreting-learners and lovers and improving the quality of interpreting.This paper firstly uses Prof.Daniel Gile's Efforts Model for simultaneous interpreting to explain the necessity of the concise strategy in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting.Secondly,the author explains the feasibility of the concise strategy based on Prof.Daniel Gile's Minimum Fidelity Principle.Finally,according to the techniques provided by Prof.Roderick Jones,the concise strategy consists of simplification,generalization and omission.After the theoretical analysis,this paper uses the empirical study to describe the characteristics and usage of the concise strategy in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting.Through quantitative analysis,the author studies the relationship between the concise strategy and the interpreters' performance.Through qualitative analysis,the author studies the impacts of the concise strategy on the interpreters' performance.The research findings show that appropriate simplification,generalization and omission can provide interpreters with more time for listening and analysis,help sort out information and improve interpreting quality.Finally,the author makes a conclusion to emphasize the importance of language skills,encyclopedic knowledge and interpreting skills.
