A Report On E-C Translation Of The Rhetoric Of History

This paper is a translation report on The Rhetoric of History from the symposium of The Rhetoric of the Human Science,which explores the role of rhetoric in various disciplines.And the source text mainly studies the application of rhetoric in the history subject.There is few academic articles explaining the role of rhetoric in diverse disciplines.Therefore,this paper offers an opportunity to interpret history from a rhetorical perspective.What’s more,there is no Chinese translation of this article,and then the translation of this article is of great practical significance to study the relationship between the rhetoric and history.This paper will translate and analyse the text under the guidance of the Relevance Theory as a way to figure out the way to reduce the misinterpretation and word-for-word translation in academic translations,thus improving the readability of the academic translation.Finally,some feasible translation strategies will be summarized to enlighten academic translators.The paper is mainly divided into five chapters:the first chapter is the preface,including a brief introduction,the significance and structure of the report.The second chapter is the literature review,which introduces the current situation and problems of the academic translations in China,as well as the research on the relationship between the rhetoric and history.The third chapter focuses on the important content of the Relevance Theory and its guiding role in academic translation.The fourth chapter is a case study of translation.Guided by the ostensive-inferential principle and optimal relevance principle of the Relevance Theory,this part elaborates the significant role of the Relevance Theory in the translation of the text.Finally,the paper summarizes the full text and explains the gains.Certainly,there is still a lot to be improved in the translation and analysis of the academic article.
