This Translation Project Report is excerpted from A Series of Lessons in Raja Yoga written by American writer William Walk Atkinson. This is a book about yoga, some deep thoughts occured during the practice of yoga. The content of the excerpt is the first and second lessons of the book, and it is also a deep understanding of learning better the content mentioned in the passage. It mainly discusses "I" and the mental tools of "I"The report is based on the translation function equivalence theory of the famous American translation theorist Eugene Nida. The following translation techniques were used in the translation of the original text:First, the lexical equivalence aspect adopts the method of literal translation and free translation to make the translation more in line with the habit of translated language;Second, the semantic level of sentence level uses the method of splitting sentences, combining sentences and reRestructure sentences to make the meaning of sentences more easily accepted by readers of translated words Third, the textual style of the content adopts the domestication and foreignization translation method to reduce the post-translational cultural deficiency between the source language and the target language. This report is a translation project report in the English translation of culture. The original text explains the culture of Raja Yoga, because it belongs to the translation of cultural types,so it uses the text type theory of Rice as a guide.Since the number of cultural translations involving the branch of Raja yoga is small, translating such texts can provide some guidance for later translators. The report is divided into five parts. The first part introduces the background, meaning, introduction and structure of the project. The second part introduces the author of the original text and the content of the book. The third part is the project description, including pre-translation preparation, translation process and post-translation processing. The fourth part is case analysis. The last part is a summary of the translation experience that I have experienced in this practice.Under the guidance of text type theory, there is no misunderstanding between the translated language and the source language in the processing of translation. To convey the type of information, the translation should follow the theory of functional equivalence,so that the text can be accurately conveyed in terms of lexical, sentence semantics and stylistic style. |
