This is a translation report of Mindfulness Yoga-The Awakening Union of Breath,Body, and Mind. It is written by Frank Jude Boccio, who is an American priest and thefounder of mindfulness yoga. This book is mainly about Buddhist meditation and itsimpacts on yoga practice and psychosomatic health. This translation project iscompleted by five translators. The author is responsible for translating the secondsection of this book, i.e. Chapter Four, Five and Six, which introduces basicmeditation skills according to Buddhist psychological teachings and suggestions foryoga practice. This paper adopts Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory toanalyze the countermeasures in translating Buddhist terms and passages. Inaccordance with translation demand, it obeys principles of faithfulness and accuracy.This paper firstly gives a brief introduction to the background, aims and significanceof this translation project in Chapter One; Chapter Two introduces the writer ofMindfulness Yoga-The Awakening Union of Breath, Body, and Mind and offers a brieftext analysis; Chapter Three presents an overview of the whole translating process,discussing preparation and correcting work; Chapter Four focuses on key difficultiesin the translating process and explores measures to translate Buddhist terms andpassages under the guidance of functional equivalence theory; Chapter Fivesummarizes lessons and discusses remaining problems of this translation project.
