As a Thai student, through the systematic study of Chinese and Thai appellations,it is found that both of them have their own unique characteristics and contain different cultural connotations. Therefore,we take the comparative study of Chinese and Thai appellations as the research object. We hope that through the comparative study of Chinese and Thai appellations,Thai Chinese learners can understand the cultural connotations of family, marriage, customs and social system contained in Chinese appellations in the process of comparison.Through the comparison of Chinese and Thai appellations and the analysis of their cultural connotations, this paper hopes to provide some suggestions for Thai appellation teaching, provide new ideas for the actual Chinese teaching, make up for the deficiencies of current research in this respect, and provide some references for future researchers. After defining the Chinese and Thai appellations, this study focuses on the Chinese and Thai kinship appellations and the Chinese and Thai social appellations. We emphatically compare and analyze the similarities and differences of Chinese and Thai kinship appellations in five categories: direct,collateral,foreign,in-laws and pseudo-kinship appellations,as well as the similarities and differences of Chinese and Thai social appellations in four categories: personal pronouns, names, social relations and social occupations. At the same time,we advance the formation and use characteristics of Chinese and Thai kinship appellations and Chinese and Thai social appellations respectively.Detailed analysis was carried out.By comparing the cultural connotations of Chinese and Thai appellations, this paper points out the cultural causes that influence the similarities and differences of appellations between the two countries. We believe that Chinese and Thai appellations have similar cultural connotations in marriage, family and customs, and there are obvious differences in cultural connotations in the concepts of sexual superiority and inferiority and national social system. This paper provides some suggestions for the teaching of Chinese appellations in Thailand from two aspects: the teaching methods of appellations and the selection and compilation of Appellations in textbooks. We believe that we should strengthen classification and summary, pay attention to comparative analysis, make use of mind mapping, combine context, and increase the second classroom to teach Thai and Chinese appellations. In the selection of appellation terms in textbooks,we should adhere to the choice of Chinese appellation terms which are difficult to understand and master, have vitality and reflect the differences in grammatical structure;in the compilation of appellation materials,we should follow the principle of clear priority and gradual progress, put appellation terms in their proper position, and compile Chinese appellation terms according to the context.
