A Study On The C/E Subtitling Of Chinese Drama Series Day And Night From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

Cultural integration deepens with the process of globalization.In recent years,as Chinese cultural industry grows,Chinese films and TV series start to go global.Thus,how to better present Chinese films and TV series to foreign audience is becoming increasingly important.However,theses that discuss C/E subtitling of those Chinese films and series are rare in the academia.Day and Night was first released on Youku in 2017.After 4 months,it was bought by Netflix,becoming the first internet series to be bought by overseas publisher.It was well-received by overseas audience and its English subtitles are well-translated.Thus,it's worthy to be discussed.This thesis is a case study on the Chinese and English version of subtitles of Day and Night from the perspective of Skopos theory and it discusses the quality of the translated subtitles.This thesis finds out that not all lines were translated in line with the Skopos theory,but those conform to Skopos rules deliver the meaning more efficiently and effectively.This thesis also counted the number of each line(translated version)and gives the recommended length of lines.
