Comparison Between The English-Chinese Subtitling And Dubbing Of The Remains Of The Day From The Skopos Theory Perspective

Scenario translation and dubbing exert important influence on communication.For a good translated film will contribute greatly to intercultural communication.However,the practice and study on audio-visual translation is imbalanced.How to balance domestication and foreignization,and how to guarantee audience 's experience in watching film remain as challenge for translator to meet.Due to the uneven performance on fandub,this paper compares and analyzes film The Remains of the Day.Based on the skopos theory,the paper studies the difference between the fandub and scenario translation from word,sentence and context level.Different purpose may lead to different fansdubbing and dubbing outcome.Even with same purpose,the outcome may be different,too.By quantitative study and skopos theory comparison on subtitling and dubbbing process,this paper gets the following inspiration:1,because of different standerd,even the same translation founction may lead to different outcome;2.translator plays a decisive role in audio-visual translation,and should pay attention to the overall effect;3.each film category should have different translation solution.
