Translation Strategies Of Musical Film Subtitling From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

Nowadays,more and more foreign films have been imported into China as a result of cross-cultural communication,and subtitle translation has become more and more important.With the deepening of the research on subtitle translation,the relevant research has become more detailed than discussing the universal characteristics and translation strategies of subtitles.The subtitle translation strategies for different types of films are different.Therefore,producing more complete subtitle translation can be conducive to the spread and communication of culture.It is essential that translation should convey information without changing the original meaning.A good subtitle translation should be concise,clear and appropriate as well.From the perspective of skopos theory,film subtitling should attach importance to audience and meet their expectations.This thesis takes the musical film La La Land as an example,analyzes the types of the film text,compares two versions of subtitle translation,and presents the translation strategies respectively.On the basis of a survey of audience feedbacks,this thesis puts forward translation strategies and methods for different types of text in order to improve the audience's acceptance of musical films.In the process of translation,it is necessary to maintain the colloquial features and appropriately use amplification strategy to avoid information redundancy.Meanwhile,in terms of the text sung by characters mainly to express emotion in musical films,a variety of translation strategies should be combined to achieve form equivalence as far as possible,so as to maintain the beauty and rhythms of songs.In the translation of text which is sung by the characters mainly to narrative stories,information transmission should be given priority and the original text should not be randomly adapted.In addition,the translation of voice-over and hints of time and place in the movies should not be omitted,otherwise the picture will be meaningless and useless.Sometimes it will make the audience confused.The translation of the same place name or the same hint text should be unified in the films.
