A Translation Report Of Global Ocean Science Report (Excerpts)

The development of ocean science and technology and the construction of maritime power are the major issues in China in this century.In order to promote the advancement of marine S&T,scientific planning of marine science and technology is needed as a guide,so the transformation of marine knowledge is increasingly vital to national economic development and overall national strength enhancement.How to translate English reports of this kind adequately well is a major issue which is worth translators' study.So the domestic readers may get to know them and the newest information about science and provide more ideas and inspirations for the Marine scientific research in China.The translation text was selected from the Global Marine Science Report released by UNESCO in 2017,which mainly introduces the relations between marine science and policies,as well as the role of Marine science in protecting the marine environment and sustainable use of marine resources.Firstly,the thesis briefly introduces the research background,research status and research objectives.Then it analyzes the excerpts from three perspectives: the content,the style and the language of the text,and analyzes problems during the translation and corresponding solutions under the three principles: comprehension,expression and adaption.With methods of qualitative analysis and the case study,the author analyzes and compares the translation so as to provide recommendations and reflections.This translation practice demonstrates that when translating some marine science reports,we need to combine the translation ability with the professional knowledge firstly,on the basis of correctly dealing with the terms and abbreviations of the original text,give full play to the translator's initiative,and clarify the logical relationship of the original text.Then the translator utilizes methods such as amplification,omission,and inversion of part speeches in order to convey the knowledge of the original text concisely and precisely,finally realizing the purposes of exchanging information and transmitting knowledge in report text.
