In 2014,professor Zhang Xuexin from FuDan Univerisity came up with a new teaching model: PAD Model. The name is composed of the abbreviations of three parts: presentation, assimilation and production.Zhang firstly uses PAD Model in his own class and has made admirable results. Then fore-line teachers in China began to employ it in their classes.Under the guidance of professor Zhang,Dong and other teachers employ PAD Model into English reading, vocabulary and grammar class in high school step by step.Their experiments not only have made students' initiative and participation degree improved but also verified the effectiveness of PAD Model(Dong et al.2017).This study aims to solve two problems: One is whether PAD Model will affect high school students' English reading motivation. The other is whether PAD Model will affect high school students' English reading skill of understanding the author's intentions, opinions and attitudes.Taking eighty-one students from two classes in Grade 10 in Tianjiabing Middle School Attached to Hebei Normal University as the research subjects, this research employs the questionnaire method and interviewing method to explore whether PAD Model will affect high school students' English reading skill. In addition, experimental method is employed in this study aiming to explore whether PAD model will affect high school students' skill of understanding the author's intentions, opinions and attitudes.Through the comparison of students' scores of the two classes in the questions of reflecting the author's intentions, opinions and attitudes, this study aims to explore the influence of PAD model on the senior high school students' skill of understanding the author's intentions, opinions and attitudes.According to the data analysis of results from the questionnaires and interviews, there is no significant difference on English reading motivation existing between students from experimental class and controlled class. After the experiment, the English reading motivation of students from two classes has been improved greatly. What needs to be concerned is that the reading efficacy of both two classes students decreases instead. The reason may be the influence of the external environment and too many frequent English reading examinations. After frequent grades' influence,as a result, students' confidence falls gradually and they don't believe they could achieve success. In addition, students still hope this model can be used in their learning process according to the interview result. This condition is beneficial to the implementation of PAD Model later.Besides, from the data analysis of test paper's outcome, there is a clear distinction existing between experimental class and controlled class in understanding the author's intentions, opinions and attitudes.Experimental class' s skill of understanding the author's intentions, opinions and attitudes is higher than that of controlled class. This result has proved the effectiveness of PAD model to some extent. This study tries to employ PAD Model into real English reading teaching. On the one hand,it can promote the influence of PAD Model and make more teachers get to know this kind of new teaching model. It leads us to do more experiments with the purpose of testing the high effectiveness of PAD Model and furthermore to explore the correlations between PAD Model and the other fields of English teaching. If more efforts and time have been spent exploring the relationship between PAD Model and the other aspects of English reading, this study will have an important significance to the development of PAD Model. On the other hand,it provides high school fore-line teachers with a new English reading teaching model, which is good for the improvement of high school English reading class' s efficiency.Thereby,it has a farreaching influence on the development of high school students' English reading.
