EST Translation From The Perspective Of Unit Shifts

English and Chinese belong to different language families.Their language features are totally different,which makes it difficult to achieve absolute equivalence in translation.The application of unit shifts not only enhances veracity of target language,but improves its readability.By analyzing the examples in the translation of "Antagonistic Roles of Dmrtl and Fox12 in Sex Differentiation via Estrogen Production in Tilapia as Demonstrated by TALENs",this thesis explores the application of Catford's theory of unit shifts,concludes seven transfer methods and finds the effectiveness of the theory in the translation of science and technology texts.The seven methods are the shift from words to phrases,the shift from phrases to words,the shift from phrases to sentences,the shift from clauses to words,the shift from clauses to phrases,the shift from clauses to sentences and the shift from sentences to sentence groups.
