The translation materials of this report are three works of science fiction written by Chinese-American science fiction writer Ken Liu.Ken is not only a science fiction translator from Chinese to English, but also an excellent science&fantasy fiction writer. The source text is full of the writer's rich imagination and the language is elegant and concise. The source text focuses on the theme of self-redemption and contains some Chinese culture components. This translation practice is guided by communicative translation theory put forward by Peter Newmark.Based on the linguistic functions,Newmark divides all texts into different categories, among which informative text, vocative text and expressive text are three main types of texts.Communicative translation tries to produce on target readers an effect as close as possible to that acquired on readers of the original. In the translation of the three works of short science fiction, the author focuses on the readership and examines the target text from the perspective of dialogue, simile and description, exploring the applicable translation strategies and methods. The author finds that communicative translation theory can guide science fiction translation. In order to be faithful to the original text, reproduce the Chinese elements and achieve publicity, the author has mainly adopted the strategy of domestication and the method of free translation.
