Reading is the main way for senior high school students to acquire English.And task-based language teaching,which emphasizes the idea of learning by doing,is a common teaching method in senior high school English reading teaching.And the proportion of popular science article reading in senior high school is increasing.However,it is difficult for students to understand,because popular science article reading are mainly manifested at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.The purpose of this paper is to investigate and apply task-based language teaching in popular science article reading in senior high school.The questions of this study are as follows:1.In senior high school English reading teaching,what methods do teachers usually use to teach popular science article reading?2.How to apply task-based language teaching to English popular science article reading in senior high school?3.Through the application of task-based language teaching in teaching English popular science article reading in senior high school,what are effects of adopting task-based language teaching in popular science article reading?The author conducted a 14-week teaching experiment in a senior high school in Jinan.Based on the theory of Input Hypothesis,Contructivist Learning Theory and Interactive Theory,the author adopted interview,articles of pre-test and post-test and questionnaire to the research.Five English teachers were randomly selected for interviews before the experiment.And interviews show that novice teachers often use task-based language teaching while experienced teachers use 3P reading teaching methods.And the experiment subjects were students of two parallel classes of Grade two.Before the experiment,they were tested on popular science article reading,and their scores were taken as the basis of the pre-test.After the experiment,they took the popular science article reading test again,and their scores were taken as the basis ofthe post-test.Their results of post-test are better than the pre-test.Then,the author conducted a questionnaire survey for students.The result of questionnaires also shows that students’ interest has increased and their attitude also has improved to popular science article reading.This research suggested that teachers should constantly expand their knowledge and design appropriate tasks according to students’ level.However,the research inevitably has some shortcomings,such as the number of subjects and short teaching experiment time.Finally,the author puts forward some suggestions for further study.For example,researchers should expand their research to ensure that the data are more accurate and scientific.
