Reading comprehension has been playing a vital role in English learning.English teaching syllabus treats the reading ability training as one of the most important parts in English teaching.However,in daily English reading teaching,most teachers still organize their reading classes in a traditional way.Traditional method of English reading teaching focuses on the explanation of vocabulary and sentence structures,with which it's hard for the students'reading skills to be strengthened.Therefore,English teachers in high school need to find out a better method to organize their classes in English reading teaching.At the end of 20~thh century,the Task-based Language Teaching(TBLT)aiming at arousing English reading interest and improving English ability appeared.It organizes the teaching by task,thus it stimulates students'internal demands and their reading ability can be improved.Therefore,the author attempts to apply task-based approach to English reading class in senior high school and do research.The author did an experiment on the students who are guided by her in Zunyi NO.22 High School of Gui Zhou.The experiment lasted for a semester.The purpose of this thesis is to study the application of TBLT in teaching in senior high school with the two following questions:(1)Can TBLT arouse students'interest in study and improve their study initiative?(2)Can TBLT improve students'reading ability?To answer the above two questions,the author chose two classes as experimental subjects,Class three Grade one is the experimental group using TBLT,while Class four Grade one is the control group,using traditional method.20 weeks later,the results showed that the students in Class3 Grade one are more motivated and interested in English.Then,The author did an experiment on the students of the two classes before it,testing the reading ability of them,the result of the test was checked by SPSS,showing the reading ability of the two classes is similar.Afterwards,the author used TBLT in Class 3 and traditional method in Class 4.After 20 weeks,the author tested the students again.The results showed that Class 3 is better than Class 4.Thus TBLT can better improve the students'reading ability than traditional teaching.Finally the experiment result shows that TBLT can promote students'learning initiative,arouse their interest and therefore improve English reading ability.
