In the 1980 s,the Task-based Language Teaching was booming in western countries.TBLT scales the learning effect according to the result and process of tasks,it emphasizes both process and product.Meanwhile,TBLT regards tasks and the process of problem-solving as learning goals.The New Curriculum Standard of high school advocates to implement Task-based Language Teaching mode.Students achieve the learning goals and through perception,experience,practice,participation and cooperation under the guidance of English teachers,thus to learn language successfully.Meanwhile,students need enormous language input in the process of language learning,and reading is the main way as well as a key part in English Teaching.In China,most English classes are teacher-centered.Teachers are used to cramming knowledge to students and focus on the products,thus neglecting students' engagement.Teachers pay attention on vocabulary,grammar and sentences but ignore the discourse analysis ability.It impedes students' thinking quality in reading;thus,students may lose the reading interest and activeness.This thesis aims to study the application of Task-based Language Teaching in reading class both from theory and practice,mainly discuss the efficiency and problems in implement in terms of teaching design.The research questions find out the problems existing in students' reading habit and reading skills,and in which aspects Task-based reading teaching effectively promotes students' reading learning.The subjects of the study are 95 students of Chengdu Longquan Middle School,and the material is the optional BOOK 7 for senior students.The study indicates that TBLT can inspire students' reading interest,develop the reading competence and promote the classroom communication.Most students can work with it.Meanwhile,the effective design of reading tasks will help cultivate students' thinking quality and develop language competence.Taskbased Language Teaching could change and optimize the traditional English reading teaching.Teachers should adopt it appropriately in English classroom in China to let TBLT play a constructive role.
