Dongchang is located in the Luxi Plain in the western part of Shandong Peninsula,at the junction of the three provinces of Shandong,Henan and Hebei.Since the first year of Hongwu's establishment, the district has been reorganized. From the absurdity of the population at the end of the Yuan Dynasty to the end of the Ming Dynasty,Dongchang Prefecture has become one of the most densely populated areas in Shandong, and population migration has played a huge role.Among the Hongwu immigrants,Dongchang accepted immigrants from Shanxi,Henan,Hebei and other places, and a large number of immigrants filled the Dongchang, which is sparsely populated.During the Yongle period, the large-scale immigration activities to Dongchang Prefecture gradually ceased. With the prosperity of the Grand Canal's transportation economy, some areas of Dongchang Prefecture became the hub of cargo transshipment with the advantage of location, and the population continued to gather here. After the war in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, the population of Dongchang Prefecture flourished again. After Xianfeng,The Yellow River is flooding and the canal was blocked. The population of Dongchang Prefecture ushered in a recovery after a brief decline and remained stable.Through the collection, collation and analysis of a large number of original household registration materials in Dongchang Prefecture during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, this paper uses historical population geography research methods and research ideas as a guide, and comprehensively applies historical document research, comparative analysis, and econometric analysis. In this paper, the geographical phenomenon of population change, population migration and population distribution in Dongchang Prefecture during the Ming and Qing Dynasties was examined in detail. The historical background of the geographical phenomenon of Dongchang Prefecture in the Ming and Qing Dynasties was deeply analyzed, and the causes behind the geographical phenomenon were explored. The population development of Dongchang Prefecture in the Ming and Qing Dynasties not only has its historical inheritance, but also has the uniqueness of regional development.
