To narrow the gap between urban and rural areas and eliminate poverty have become two great missions of our country.Improving the teaching quality of rural primary schools is not only an important measure on narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas,but it will als o lay a solid foundation for students' better adapting to social development,meeting the needs of the times,and participating in economic globalization and informatization.Vocabulary teac hing serves as one of the important parts of English teaching in primary school.The New English Curriculum in Primary Schools(2011)pointed out that students in primary school should achieve the second goal of the nine-level target system.Students can experience the fun of English learning.Meanwhile,students are interested in continuing to learn English.Therefore,it is particularly important to use instructional game in English vocabulary teaching in rural primary schools to adjust the classroom atmosphere and stimulate students' interest in learning.Firstly,this paper presented the theories relevant to game and the research status of instructional game,as well as English vocabulary teaching in primary school both at home and abroad.Then,this paper studied the application of instructional game in English vocabulary teaching in rural primary schools by means of questionnaires,interviews and experimentation,and attempted to solve the following two problems: 1.What are major problems on the application of instructional game in English vocabulary teaching in rural primary schools? 2.How can instructional game be used more efficiently in English vocabulary teaching in rural primary schools?Through the research,the main problems concerning the application of instructional game to English vocabulary teaching in rural primary schools have been discovered:First,the teachers lack educational theories about instructional game.Second,the teachers lack resources about instructional game.Third,instructional game are not well organized and disciplined.Fourth,students' involvement in instructional game is inadequate.In view of the above problems,English teachers in rural primary schools should learn about educational theories of instructional game and create conditions to prepare forinstructional game positively.Meanwhile,teachers should follow the principles about the implementation of instructional game and optimize teaching evaluation methods when organizing instructional game,so as to bring instructional games into full play in English vocabulary teaching in rural primary schools,show their due charm,stimulate rural pupils' interest in learning English,and to improve their vocabulary learning effect and achievement.Finally,the findings were summarized up and limitation of this research was analyzed.Likewise,the prospects for the efficient application of instructional game in English vocabulary teaching in rural primary schools in the future were put forward at the end of the paper.
