Primary school English is quite highlighted by the whole society in recent years.English Curriculum Standards(2011)says:the objective of primary school English is to stimulate and foster students'interest in English teaching.According to the author's observation of her classes,students'interest of English vocabulary learning is getting lower and lower when they are in higher grades.However,primary school pupils have positive attitude in English vocabulary learning with game teaching.Pupils are quite curious when teachers apply game teaching in English vocabulary classes.Because game teaching not only satisfies pupils~'innocent traits but also meets the features of their physical and mental development.Therefore,game teaching is considered as one of the most efficient methods in primary school English vocabulary learning.The application of game teaching is from Plato,the Greek philosopher,who emphasizes the importance of game teaching in children~'s education.Then,game teaching was spread and widely applied in many countries at home and abroad.Nowadays,game teaching has been thought as an effective teaching method which can create relax learning environment and stimulate pupils~'learning enthusiasm.Based on the children psychology and the researches at home and abroad,the aim of this paper is to explore as follows:1.Are pupils more interested in English new words learning after the application of game teaching in primary school?2.Why is the application of game teaching more useful and suitable in primary school English vocabulary learning?3.What benefits can pupils get from the game teaching approach?According to primary students'psychology and core educational value of game teaching,the author attempts to do the study based on intrinsic motivation theory,the theory of human motivation psychological review and the flow theory.The author chose two classes of Grade Three which are taught by the author.The experimental class is applied with game teaching,and the control class still uses traditional method.By the questionnaires,pre-test,post-test and interview,containing the quantitative and qualitative research,the author studies the data and results from the two classes.There are some conclusions as follows:It can stimulate their interest and also make students gain positive attitude when teachers apply game teaching in English vocabulary teaching.Moreover,it improves students~'achievements.According to the results,it is proved that application of game teaching is feasible and effective in primary school.Also,English teachers should organize and create suitable games in English teaching with other teaching methods.What's more,it is necessary for them to create proper games according to English texts and children psychology.Only in this way,primary English vocabulary teaching can be optimized and promote the reform in the near future.
