A Report On E-C Translation Of The New Trends In Emission Control In The European Union(Chapter Six) From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence

Nowadays,there is an increasing concern on the environmental protection.With the rapid improvement of the science and industry,our way of production and life has had an important and profound impact on the natural environment.Moreover,environmental issues are also closely related to the human life and health.Although the western countries have paid more attention to this issue much earlier than ours,the awareness between the exhaust emissions from the vehicles and environmental protection is greatly developed by our country these days.Nowadays,advocating low-carbon travel,protecting human health,building an ecological civilization and realizing the sustainable development of human life and production are the main themes for this era and the important goals for all mankind to strive for.This thesis belongs to translation practice report.The original text of this report is the sixth chapter of the New Trends in Emission Control in the European Union from Springer,entitled Measurement of Exhaust Emission In-use Conditions.This target text is the representative of sci-tech texts.And the chapter mainly contains the methods of measurements and analyses of exhaust emissions from various vehicles,providing the controlling and monitoring of the exhaust emissions with great technical support.With the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory,and the help of translation tools(such as dictionaries and websites,etc.),related documents,professional personnel and the cooperation with the supervisor and classmates,this translation practice will be completed by detailed analyses of examples from the lexical level,the syntactic level and the discourse level.This practice is designed to explore the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory to sci-tech texts,study the linguistic features of sci-tech texts,make the translation version achieve functional equivalence,verify the feasibility of Functional Equivalence Theory to translation of sci-tech texts and summarize the experiences and mistakes in former stage with the hope of improving translation expertise and injecting new life into the translation of sci-tech texts.
