This translation project report,on the basis of Cloudstreet(Chapter 5),a book written by Tim Winton,aims to present and summarize the translation process as well as its essential and difficult points.This translation project belongs to literary translation.Literary translation usually pays more attention to the readability of the translated works,and the general readers also prefer the works that are catchy and easy to understand.This translation project report is mainly focused on analyzing the feature of translation,guided by the differences between domestication and foreignization.How to use domestication and foreignization properly during the translation process has always been the focus of translation research.This report aims to help translators grasp the measurement of domestication and foreignization in translation.The significance of this translation project report lies in guiding translation practice and improving translation level.This translation project report consists of five parts as followings:Part One is the description of its background,namely,project introduction and project significance.Part Two shows the background information of Cloudstreet,introducing both the author and the book itself and analysis of translation material is provided too.Part Three presents the process of this translation,which is divided into three parts:pre-translation,mid-translation and post-translation.Part Four refers to remark on and appreciation of the translation in terms of lexical,syntactic and textual layer.Part Five is the conclusion of the translation project report,made up of en lightenment,reference and problems unsolved.The thesis finally draws a conclusion on the application of domestication and foreignization.In translation,the relationship between domestication and foreignization is symbiotic and they are usually used comprehensively.Starting from the reality and considering the specific situation of the translation,the translator ought to not only be faithful to the cultural characteristics of the original text,but also take the readability of the target language readers into consideration.
