The source text of this report on translation is selected from the first part of Sad Girls by Lang Leav,a New Zealand novelist. The story begins with a lie that is made by the heroine Audrey in her adolescence, which mainly tells about the emotional disputes between her and Ana's boyfriend Rad and her current boyfriend Duck after Ana committed suicide because of the lie,as well as her personal self-guilt and pain. With vivid details of a journey filled with lies, secrets, regrets and pain, this compact story warns people to pay for their own mistakes. This report mainly discusses three key and difficult problems in lexical, syntactic and contextual level. The lexical level includes the translation of names of awards,of people,of place and other proper nouns,as well as the translation of some adjectives and verbs. The syntactic level deals with the translation of short and long sentences, and the pronouns in context. The contextual level studies on whether the translation conforms to the language characteristics and style of the novel,as well as the situation at that moment. In view of the above difficulties, the author chooses the functionalism skopos theory as the translation guidance theory.Committing to the principle of purpose, coherence, fidelity and loyalty in skopos, the author combines with examples on the basis of the readers' reading habits and thinking modes.By adopting the translation strategy of domestication, the author makes use of many translation skills like amplification, omission, splitting, merging and so on to do translation. All of these efforts can make the translation not only correctly express the meaning and the language style of the source text, but also cater to the Chinese readers' reading taste,so that the target language readers can obtain the same comprehension and feelings as the source language readers.According to this translation practice, the author fully realizes the key points of novel translation:apart from conveying the meaning of the source text, translation should accord with the readers' reading habits and convey a sense of painting by taking the language environment, situation and the feature of the target language into consideration.
