This practice report is based on the simulated English-to-Chinese consecutive interpreting of the documentary Impossible Builds. The simulation task presents people with the two latest restarted mega projects in Dubai which were put on hold due to the global financial crisis in 2008,namely,“the World Islands Project” and “Seahorse-the Floating Villa Project”.Project interpreting is rather difficult, but it is an effective means to test the interpreter's competence.Through the simulated consecutive interpreting, the author finds his own major problems existing in the process to be misinterpreting and information loss.In light of the two problems above, the author conducts detailed case studies and analyses and gets at the root causes, which are insufficient subject knowledge reserve and deficient interpreting competence. To address the problems and be more competent in the interpreting field, the author further presents four solutions in the report, namely, enlargement of vocabulary, supplementation of subject knowledge, polishing interpreting techniques and boosting cross-cultural understanding. It is the author's sincere hope that this report can not only shed lights of enlightenment for students majoring in the interpreting field and amateur interpreters, but also provide limited but valuable information for both Chinese tourists to Dubai and China's vast number of effervescent investors.
