Conference interpreting is a tough job. People are familiar with this professionmainly for the considerable income, but know little about the working process, whichmakes it mysterious. At the very beginning, conference interpreting only meant consecutive interpreting, and then with the invention of booth, simultaneous interpreting began. The price of boothis high, but simultaneous interpreting can save time and make the conference moreefficient, so it’s worth in large-scale conferences. The examples and skills in this thesisare mainly for consecutive interpreting, which include the preparation for interpreting,note-taking skills, the reading back skills and so forth. This paper consists of an introduction, the main body, and the conclusion. To become an excellent interpreter, it isnecessary for all to begin from the training of consecutive interpreting, and only byscientific and repeated practice can the skills be acquired. The training of note-takingbegins from analyzing the structure of speeches, and the first step is analyzing the scriptsof speeches, the benefit of which is to relax the time limit, thus the structure can beanalyzed in detail. The next step is taking notes in light of the scripts, recalling and repeating the speech with the notes in mother tongue, then in the target language. Lateron the scripts are replaced by the audio of speeches in mother tongue, then in the targetlanguage. The step-by-step method is a scientific and efficient way of training. The last part, the conclusion, gives a summary of this paper and points out the flaws.Understanding the process of consecutive interpreting, simulating interpreting, andgetting knowledge about training methods are important for those to become excellentinterpreters.
