On The Translator's Subjectivity In Ken Liu's English Translation Of The Three-Body Problem

Translated by the Chinese American writer Ken Liu,The Three-Body Problem won the 2015 Hugo Award for Best Novel.From the perspective of translator's ubjectivity,this thesis is a case study of the English translation of Santi to probe into what contributes to Ken Liu's success of translation.The translator's subjectivity refers to translator's subjective initiative reflected in the whole translation for realizing his or her translation purpose on the premise of respecting the source text.It can be manifested by translator'cognition and practice.Based on the analysis of the entire process of Ken Liu's translation from both cognitive and practical level,this thesis tries to reveal that Ken Liu's full play to his subjectivity is the reason for his successful translation.By comparing the source and target texts,the thesis points out that Ken Liu's subjectivity is embodied in the following aspects:firstly,the choice of original text and his translation thoughts both reflect the translator's cognitive subjectivity;secondly,the choice of translation methods and the selection of translation process both reflect the translator's practical subjectivity.This thesis may provide insights for those translators devoted to the going global of Chinese literature.
