The year of 2015 saw a remarkable breakthrough in Chinese science fiction. In this year, the Chinese version of The Three-Body Problem was rewarded as the best full-length novel, whose author Liu Cixin became the first Asian writer to win the highest award in the international science fiction literature field. Now its English version,The Three-Body Problem has become the best seller among Chinese science fiction novels in the United States, which has been highly recognized by readers in the English-speaking countries and regarded as the most successful English translation work of Chinese literature in recent years. The Three-Body Problem is about an invasion of the earth by alien civilization which is triggered by an accident interstellar communication during the period of Cultural Revolution.Because the story happens in the period of the Cultural Revolution and the world of Three Body is based on the development of ancient Chinese civilization, there are a large number of cultural factors in the text, which brings higher requirements for translators.Since the cultural turn of the 1970 s,the translator's subjectivity has been widely concerned. As the subject of the translation process, the translator plays a decisive role in the translation. It is held that translation is the communication within and between the cultures. In order to achieve cultural equivalence, translator needs to play his subjectivity, dealing with different texts in different cultural environments. Therefore,it is feasible to study the translator's subjectivity in Chinese science fiction translation from the view of cultural translation theory.Based on the cultural translation theory founded by Susan Bassnett, this thesis is conducted with the methods of description method and contrastive analysis, from the translator's culture and linguistic ability, the dealing with material culture, social culture and linguistic culture of the translator, and the use of translation strategies and translation techniques. It is found that the subjectivity in Ken Liu translation isadopted, through domestication and foreignization strategies, amplification, addition, transliteration and other translation techniques to make the translation more acceptable to readers. At the same time,it also promotes communication between Chinese and foreign science-fiction literature.
