Based on the theory of text typology proposed by Reiss,a representative of the German functionalist school,this report classifies the examples from the source text Secret SAUCE into three types,namely informative text,expressive text and operational text,so as to discuss the translation techniques and methods for texts on advertising guidance in the process of English-Chinese translation.The background of translation and the content of the source material is introduced in the first chapter.The report then discusses the status-quo of texts on advertising guidance,and the development of text typology,before analyzing some examples in translation to illustrate the specific guiding role of text typology theory in translating similar texts.The report mainly explains that different types of texts should use different translation methods,and summarizes the specific applications of the literal,the interpretation,the amplification,the omission,and the adaptation translation methods in the translation of informative text,expressive text,and operative text.Informative texts emphasize faithfulness of information.It prioritize information.Expressive texts underlines aesthetics and emotion.Operative text stresses attraction and the effect it brings.Under these principles,different text types should be translated with different methods.Through this translation practice,I deeply understand that all-round competences are required to deal with translation.We should constantly improve translation skills and abilities while acquiring solid theoretical knowledge.It's hoped that this report can provide reference for the translation of texts on advertising guidance.
