The "Production-oriented Approach"(POA)is a foreign language classroom teaching theory with Chinese characteristics built by Professor Wen Qiufang,a Chinese foreign language educator.The theory advocates the "integration of learning and teaching concept" emphasizing the mutual promotion in the relationship between learning and teaching.It states,while teaching,teachers must have a focus,goals,teaching process and the basis of teaching.POA is built to improve the teaching effect of foreign language in Chinese universities.It is aimed at college students in English majors as well as the middle and high-level non-English majors in China.It required students to have at least elementary English language proficiency.The author tried applying POA teaching theory to elementary Chinese oral teaching experiment at the OKO Federal Polytechnic in the Confucius Institute at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Nigeria.The teaching target elementary Chinese language students in the Institute.In the experiment,the author divided the students into experimental class and the control class,A and B respectively.The author uses POA teaching method to teach the experimental class,while using the translation method to teach the control class.This study refers to the application of POA in elementary Chinese oral teaching.The research questions are:1.Whether the Production-oriented Approach can improve students' interest in Chinese learning?2.Whether the Production-oriented Approach can improve students' oral speaking skills?After 4 months of oral Chinese teaching experiments,it was found that the teaching method of this theory is very suitable for teaching Chinese oral to elementary Chinese language students in Nigeria.In the end,the author puts forward a new oral teaching countermeasures and suggestions for Nigeria,and for Chinese as a foreign language based on POA.This thesis consists of four chapters: the first part of the thesis is the introduction,including the research background,research purpose and significance,research content and methods;The first chapter is a brief introduction of POA,mainly introduces POA teaching model and teaching process;The second chapter is a summary of POA research status,including the research of POA in Chinese Universities oral English teaching and POA in second language teaching,mainly introduces the development of POA in English teachingand in the research of input-output theory in Chinese teaching;The third chapter is the feasibility and application of Chinese oral teaching in POA,containing the first feasibility analysis,which mainly includes the experimental content and teaching process;The fourth chapter is methodology,it include teaching background and analysis,mainly analyzes teaching object and teaching cases;the survey design and analysis,mainly analyzes questionnaires and oral tests;The fifth chapter is conclusions and recommendations,this chapter contains teaching countermeasures and suggestions.
